Bread for life

It's been a while since I've posted. We've been pretty busy around here. We have been trying to finish up some of the school work. We will still have some, heading into our usual summer break, but it cannot be helped this year. We've taken quite a bit of time off with Daniel's birth and the holidays, so it is to be expected that we are a little "behind," though I guess, you are never really behind in home schooling, right?

Daniel is now eight months old - - he is crawling and imitating us. It is fun to watch him grow. Watching him brings back the memories of the others at his age. It also gives us an appreciation for how much they've grown and how little time we really have with these "gifts from God." For truly, they are gifts, given for only a short time until they are off to make their own way, though I expect to find them at my kitchen table for many more years, yet.

Our oldest, Jeremy, is fifteen. And so, we know that the time is getting shorter and shorter. Watching him with Daniel makes it more apparent to us that the time is slipping away. There are so many things I wish to pass on to him before he leaves our home. There are the usual mom things - - like doing laundry, taking a shower, brushing your teeth. And there are the things that only life can teach, but that moms and dads can soften with their wisdom and understanding. Like always have a spare in the trunk and be sure to check it every so often. That doesn't include just spare tires, but also a back up plan, just in case things don't go your way at first.

I listened to a talk by some one closer to the beginning of our home school journey - - I think it was Mary Hasson - - where she stated that being pro-life was more than being anti-abortion. It means appreciating life at every stage of development from the womb to the grave -- when it is first conceived, when it first crawls and then walks, when it comes to those "troublesome two's" and you are pulling out your hair, when it develops into those "troublesome teen years" and you are wishing you had more hair, and then letting them go into the world. Seeing Daniel and Jeremy side-by-side has allowed me to remember that and to appreciate their lives, and the lives of all of my kids, more fully.

God Bless!
